Black Girls Delight in Food Trucks?

You know it’s getting close to the summer when you see food trucks lined up around Cleveland. This past Wednesday, eighteen of these glorious trucks were parked around the Ralph J. Perk plaza in downtown, a precursor to Walnut Wednesday and summer days to come!

The first ever, Food Bank Truck Up, hosted by the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and the Northeast Ohio Food Truck Association served up good eats to the downtown lunch crowd. The participating trucks who donated 10% of their proceeds to support the Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s Harvest for Hunger annual campaign included:

  • 216 Bistro

  • Boca Loca Burrito Factory

  • Fire Truck Pizza

  • Flamingo Jacks

  • Hatfield’s Goode Grub

  • Krav

  • Manna Truck

  • Off the Griddle

  • Proper Pig

  • River Dog

  • Smash Time

  • Smokin Rock-n-Roll

  • Smooth Rider

  • Stone Pelican

  • Sweet! Mobile Cupcakery

  • The Little Piggy

Recognize any of your favorites?

Having a strategy for picking a food truck helps, especially if there are several to choose from. I usually start by asking myself questions like “What do I have a taste for?”  or “Is there something that I’ve never tried before?” But on this day, I walked around the plaza couple of times before deciding which of the trucks I would try.

I decided to go with a food truck that’s new on the Cleveland scene, Flamingo Jacks, from Wooster, Ohio. Their digital menu was a cool, modern addition, and Chef McNeely’s Boursin Philly Cheesesteak was scrumptious.

Unfortunately, after eating the cheesesteak, I didn’t have any room for another bite. Satisfied, I sat in the sunshine dreaming of the days in the near future when the food trucks come rolling in with their delicious culinary options.

Sorry, not the best pic I know. I couldn't wait to start eating my Boursin Philly Cheesesteak! It was delicious!
