Black Girls Do Goat Yoga?

by Nicole Lynch

In 2018 the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team made their 4th appearance in the NBA finals against the Golden State Warriors. There was a lot of debate about LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavs being the ‘GOAT’ or Greatest Of All Time basketball player.

To celebrate our very own (at the time) GOAT, The City of Cleveland partnered with Progressive Insurance to offer one of the hottest and trendiest relaxation techniques, Goat Yoga.

Goat. Yoga. Do those 2 words go together? They do! According to goatyoga.net, ‘Goat Yoga is Animal-Assisted Therapy in a natural setting with an unexpectedly…smart, social, and profoundly cuddly animal.’

Last June I decided to take my yoga talents outside and try this goat thing. I love to practice yoga and doing it outside during my lunch hour seemed like a mood. The sessions were 20 minutes long and taught by an actual certified yoga instructor.

So how was it? It was a blast! It actually was just a relaxation yoga class outside with a bunch of the cutest baby goats ever wandering around and being playful and curious. The area was fenced in and there were several goat handlers on site. The handlers fed the goats and kept them active and cleaned up if nature decided to call. I spent more time trying to get a goat in my selfie than trying to get in my Tree Pose. The goats sniffed, jumped, licked, snuggled, and sometimes sat on you. I had no idea that baby goats were that freakin cute! I laughed a lot, took a bunch of pictures and I managed to get a couple of yoga poses in.

So would I do it again? Absolutely! I don’t know if I felt more relaxed due to the goats or the laughter, but it was definitely a dope experience.
