Black Girls Go Ape?

Soo...my little cousin decided to be adventurous and climb trees for her birthday. I’m not too fond of heights, but I’m always down for a challenge.  Of course, I’m the “fun cousin” so I had no choice but to go. She found a place called Go Ape.

You know I had to ask. “What do you wear to climb trees? Like how can you be cute?” My hair wasn't done, but that wasn't enough to talk my cousin out of going. Oh well, I had to find a dope hat to wear.

I prayed for rain so I wouldn’t have to spend $58 on a ticket and hoped she would find something cheaper and less dangerous to do. That was a fail. It was 85 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. We drove 30 minutes away from Cleveland and ended up right around the corner from Strongsville Mall.

I'll admit that I was a little scared, but being so close to home I thought, “How scary and big can it be?” We rode through the Mill Stream Run Reservation and pulled up at Go Ape right on time.

After registering, we went through the training course solo. We had to climb treetops, walk different types of ropes, and then the fun part, zip lining. The instructors watched us at a distance from the ground. Me being as crazy as I am decided to keep my phone in my hand and record the whole thing.

Zip lining was cool, but I found it hard to master landing on my feet. Landing backwards was no fun, plus, I swear I itched the rest of the day. I had dirt and woodchips all up my back. My butt was dirty and wet. I almost fell during the rope course because while holding on an ant crawled up my arm so I let go. I’m not a fan of heights or bugs, but there I was in the sky feeling like I was an acrobat in a circus.

The Tarzan swing was a different experience. I was so scared!  I had to fall, swing into a net, and then climb up it. That drop was crazy and I’d compare it to bungee jumping for real.

The course took us about 2.5 hours to finish and I was sooooo happy once we were done. But it was worth the $58, even though I wasn’t mentally prepared for the work. I really thought it would be a walk in the park.

Once I got home, I had no energy to do anything. I couldn’t make upstairs to shower, even though I needed one soooooo bad. I passed out on the couch and that’s where I stayed all night.

If you’re looking for fun adventure that will challenge you mentally and physically, Go Ape is the perfect experience!
