5 Reasons Why Black Girls Go To Wineries

It’s easy to pick up your favorite bottle of wine from Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. Or order a glass of 19 Crimes at Swerve. And it’s imperative to keep you bar cart stocked with a variety of reds and whites, especially when you want to have a glass after work with your hubby during that Netflix and Chill moment, or with your cousin who frequently visits.

So why do black girls go to wineries?

I asked my girl, Dakota, this question because she invited me on a mini tour of a few NEO wineries about a month ago.

I mean, why travel 45 minutes away from home just to drink wine? She broke it down for me.

  1. Wineries are hip and classy.

  2. Wineries are outside of the norm and provide a different environment to enjoy wine instead of the club, airport, or restaurant. (Especially if the winery is located on a vineyard.)

  3. Wineries in NEO are close enough to home, but far enough away to seem like get-away.

  4. Wineries are perfect to hang out with your girlfriends that you haven’t seen or talked to in a while.

  5. And most importantly, wineries are for drinking wine and learning about it too.

You know, my girl is right. Wineries are all that! Not only did I have a great time hanging out with old friends, and meeting new ones, I gained an appreciation for wine and the fact that we have very exceptional wineries and vineyards in our backyard.

If you haven’t visited any of the 200 or so wineries in Ohio, you should plan a visit soon. Even in the snow. It’s so worth it.

Here are a few of my favorites in NEO.

If you’re considering going on a wine adventure, consider these tips:

  • Make sure to brush up on your wine etiquette.

  • Plan to be there early because of many close early, especially during the winter months.

  • Assign a designated driver or plan an overnight stay, if lodging is available in the area.

  • Go with girlfriends who like wine.

  • Try out the food at the establishment, if they have a menu.

  • Buy a bottle of your favorite to take home.

  • Have a good time.
