Looking Back at Engage Cleveland's YP week

My third year attending Engage! Cleveland’s Young Professionals week was a success! As usual, I met some awesome people, attended some cool new places and learned something along the way.

Donut Panel Discussion and Tasting

I was pretty much excited for this event ever since registration. Who doesn’t want to taste some of Cleveland’s best donuts? In fact, I want one right now.

This event was hosted by Hub55 which houses, Big Mouth Donuts. As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by multiple amazing donuts of every variety. I’ve had the pleasure of having Brewnuts and Peace, Love and Little Donuts this year. But, couldn’t turn down turning down another tasting of each! I also tried a Big Mouth Donut which was delicious. If only I could intake more donuts, I would’ve tried them all!

After tasting donuts, we got to hear from the donut creators themselves. On the panel was Courtney Bonning & Kelly Brewer of  Big Mouth Donuts, Katie Flesher of Peace, Love and Little Donuts, Trevor Gile, Daylight Donuts, Shelley Pippin of Brewnuts, and Dustin Goldberg and Jeff Sabroff of Goldie’s Donuts and Bakery.

They discussed the ins and outs of running a donut shop, the food revival happening in Cleveland and why donuts are making a comeback. It was an interesting discussion even if you weren’t in the donut or food industry. I feel like as an entrepreneur. I got some enlightening nuggets of information.

The Closing Party

This is my all time favorite event during the YP week. Here’s why: 1) The venue, FWD Day and Night Club is like something straight out of Miami. You’ve got a pool, you’ve got a completely open space and you’ve got a fun vibe all around. 2) The people who attend. I met the Black Girl in CLE team there in 2016. I’ve met people who have literally opened doors for me!

This year, was no different from the last! I met some amazing ladies who work in my field of marketing. I even met someone who works at my job that I’ve never met! It’s truly a chance to connect with people in Cleveland and I love that about it.

If you’re wondering if you should participate in Young Professional’s week next year, I’ll save you the trouble. Go! Attend as many events as you can, network and have fun! It’s absolutely worth it. Until next time!
