Black Girls Mingle at Van Aken Beer Garden?

There are so many ways to enjoy a Friday evening in Cleveland during the summer. Happy-hour downtown? Fun and games in the Flats? Dinner and a movie on Cedar Lee or Gordon Square? With so many things to do and places to visit, sometimes it’s hard to choose where to spend my time.

Last Friday, I decided to stay close to home and walk to the Van Aken Beer Garden in Shaker Heights. It was a great way to officially kick off the summer, enjoy a balmy summer evening, and spend time with my girls from Black Girl in the CLE.

At this summer monthly event, there’s a little something for the entire family to enjoy. From playing corn hole with the kids, shopping with local vendors, enjoying a bite to eat from Donatos Pizza or Slyman’s food truck, sipping on a cold beer or snow cone, and foot tapping to the sounds of the live band, Van Aken Beer Garden has become a family favorite summertime event, even if you don’t live in Shaker Heights.

(Located in the west parking lot of the Shaker Plaza, the Van Aken Beer Garden isn’t hard to miss if you travel east on Chagrin or Van Aken Boulevard. It’s near the end of the Blue Line rapid and the Walgreens on the corner of Chagrin and Van Aken.)

If you missed June’s Beer Garden, do not fret because you’ll get a chance to visit July 21 and August 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Check out the website for all the details.

A celebration of summertime, yes, but I also feel like Van Aken Beer Garden is a celebration of the future home of Van Aken District, a revitalized area of Shaker that will include a mix of residential, retail shops, restaurants, and offices where more mingling can take place.
