Why Black Girl?
First of all it’s who I am…Shana Black… a girl well woman from Cleveland, Ohio and the creator of this blog. Cleveland and it’s suburbs have always been home to me whether it be hanging out in the Lee Harvard area, going to school in Bedford and Shaker Heights or working in Parma Heights and in the Glenville neighborhood I am a hometown girl and love my city.
Cleveland has lots of great events and happenings however being a Black Girl has occasionally presented the question of will I fit in at this event. Growing up lots of us were told that you don’t go to certain areas of town, or avoid certain places at night because of past racial tensions and discrimination. But Cleveland is changing and we’re going to highlight what’s new and happening around all sides of town.
In this blog my friends and I will share our adventures around Cleveland’s festivals, restaurants, bars and events. We will share with you the pictures, the stories and our encounters all from a sisterly perspective. Our goal is to get you out of your normal hangouts and at these events and places as well….in some cases we’ll tell you about what places and events just weren’t for us.
So if you’re ready, let me introduce the bloggers of Black Girl in the CLE
