Polycystic ovary syndrome, also known as PCOS, has a new name
PCOS has officially been renamed PMOS, or polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, to better reflect the condition’s impact on hormonal and metabolic health. Experts say the change could lead to earlier diagnosis and better care for Black women disproportionately affected by the condition.
