It’s been said that Clevelanders don’t cross a river, I’ve also been told that we don’t cross a bridge. While we often laugh about it, I think it’s safe to say there’s some truth to it, at least it was for me.
Black Girl in the CLE was started in 2016 to get Clevelanders to explore all of Cleveland. And when I say Clevelanders, I mean me. I’m a life long East sider, from the Heights area. I could hop on an RTA rapid downtown and quickly return after the show, game or another event I was attending.
So for the final blog of the series, I’ve decided to share places I have NEVER been in Cleveland (I know how is that possible, right?)
I took this picture. I’ve gotten this close to the house and never gone inside.
-
The Christmas Story House: Love the movie, driven by there, taken pictures but never been inside. No reason, (maybe becauseit’s on the west side?) Just kidding, I just gotta do better?
-
Euclid Beach…most of Euclid: In the newsletter, during the summer months, I let you know who is performing at Edgewater Live, Wade Oval, Shaker Square, and EUCLID BEACH. But I have no idea how to get there. I’ll get there, and I’ll post a photo of the Cleveland sign.
-
The Cleveland Improv: The Cleveland Improv is a place I make sure to check each week for the newsletter so I can attest to the great acts they have. I’ve interviewed a few comedians, just never been to a show. I’ll throw in an honorable mention to Pickwick and Frolic as I’ve never been there either.
-
SouthPark Mall: I’ve heard it’s nice, no idea what’s there but I do know they host the hundreds Girls Scouts every year, which I think is cool.
-
Renaissance Hotel: Well… I accidentally walked into the Renaissance lobby once after getting my hotels mixed up for a meeting. Does that count? For me the Renaissance is kind of a mystery as it’s one of the few traditional hotels that I’ve not been inside. Bet they probably have some fantastic views of the city.
-
PLAY: CLE- “Play:CLE claims to be nation’s largest adventure park. They are located in Avon and recently mentioned us in a blog. Sadly I’ve never made it out there…yet. I’ll do better and figure out how to get to Avon (LOL, I’m an east sider, remember)
-
Nela Park to see the lights- I think I may have gone when I was a little kid but I obviously didn’t realize what a major part it plays in the Cleveland Holiday Season
-
The Bop Stop and Night Town– I have a friend that loves this place and I know they have great acts almost every week.
-
Mason’s Creamery– Almost made it there for Ramen once but the GPS told me it would take 30 minutes from downtown because of traffic and I said forget it… I’ll get there because I feel I must try the Ramen
-
Jack Casino– I’ve been to the Rocksino, and the Racino…I’m always at Public Square, often right outside the intro but, I’ve just never entered. Ok, okay, next time I will go in.
-
Juke Box: Somewhere along my journeys around the city I learned about Jukebox (and yes it has an actual jukebox, so I have been told). Whoever I encounter must have said something pretty great about the place because I have been wanting to stop over for a while.
-
The Marble Room: Not sure if I can afford it on a blogger’s budget but one day…
Took this picture too, at some point I’ll go inside…maybe…one day
As you can see, I have a lot of places to visit around town. I guess this can serve as my 2020 to-do list. Stay tuned to Black Girl in the CLE this year and hopefully, I’ll have a blog about some of these places
Honorable mentions:
These places would have been on this list but I recently visited them for the 1st time; Beechland Ballroom, Gordon Square, Edgewater, Parma Library, IX center, riding the Red Line, Windemere, Rock Hall, Asiatown, Little Italy, CWRU, Cle History center, Shooters, Cain park (can you believe I had never been to Cain Park)
